Planning my next trip and photography projects in Sacramento (Blog #17)

I am off to Sacramento in a few months time: it's time to plan my travel; it's time to plan my photography.

Flying from the UK to Sacramento is not straightforward, but is not impossible. Last time I flew from my local airport to Schipol (a very big airport, but easy to navigate) then on to Seattle on Delta, which, having travelled on many long haul airlines, is now my favorite carrier. Again, on Delta, it's then a relatively short flight to Sacramento. I upgraded to Delta Premium Select last time, and was so impressed with this offering that I have gone for the same again. 

I am visiting relatives in Sacramento so accomodation isn't something I have to think about, nor is filling my time as that will mostly be taken up looking after my new grandchild.



Any spare time I manage to snatch is primarily going to be dedicated to taking lots of photographs. I have been to Sacramento about half a dozen times in the last few years and have done the tourist things to death, so being a tourist again won't be high on my agenda, although I may change my mind, baby minding duties permitting.

I already have loads of photographs taken on previous visits, but this time I thought I would set myself the task of organising my photos into several projects. Where to begin? What can I photograph? To begin with I thought coffee shops: there are many to choose from and, besides, I love hanging out in these places, enjoying the coffee (obviously) but most of all people watching. I will be based in Midtown, not in the retail area, but among houses and apartment blocks of various architectural designs. Buildings are therefore something else i could photograph. Last time I was in Sacramento I discovered it has many nice park areas, so perhaps a project of photos taken in and around these parks would be a good idea.


Sacramento is big on wall art, and I mean big. Johnny Cash's image being one of the biggest, if not the biggest. Murals and wall art would make another great project. 

I'm sure when I get back there I will find other themes to include in my Sacramento photography projects. Whatever I end up shooting it will be great to be travelling again and taking photographs, both pastimes I absolutely love.

7 days in Puglia: exploring Italy's hidden gem

Welcome to my latest blog in which I hope to give you a taste of Puglia in Italy, from where my wife and I have recently returned. We had booked an all inclusive guided tour holiday with Great Rail Journeys, a company we have previously used. We have reached the stage of our lives where we sometimes, but not always, like others to do the organising for us. This was our first trip to this part of Italy. Jet Lendon, Jo Bradford, and smartphone photography

Welcome to my latest blog, which is a gentle read about two smartphone photographers who, if you're into smartphone photography, you should check out.  I love my Google Pixel 8 Pro smartphone camera, but despite thinking I know its every function, I still read and watch anything I can get my hands on that has to do with smartphone photography.
