Is Wanderlog the best travel app? (Blog #11)
Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. Today I am going to outline why I think Wanderlog is probably the best travel app on the market at the moment.
This blog is about the free version and is not an all singing and dancing guide about using the app. There's plenty of information on the Internet and in the app itself about using it.
I love travelling. I also love being super prepared and organised, whether it's for a 2-night break or a longer foreign adventure. I also love being able to access as much as I can for my trips on my smartphone and this includes writing my travel journal and publishing my travel blogs.
Before any trip I like to set up my itinerary, research and discover places, restaurants etc., make a list of all the things I need to take, and have easy access to my reservations and travel documentation. There are apps that enable you to do each of these elements, but wouldn't it be so much easier if there was just one awesome app that combined all your travel needs in one place? Well, I think I have found it.
My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe to spend some time in Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. We will have limited time in each city so want to make the most of our time. Constructing a well researched itinerary therefore became imperative. A quick look on Google Play for travel apps brought up Wanderlog.
Wanderlog fits the bill. It's very easy creating a trip and putting together a day-by-day itinerary. I found it easy searching for, say, a museum, and then adding it to a specific day. Anything you add comes with information drawn from the Internet; it is also added to a map. You can manually add your accommodation, which is pinned on your map, and which gives you a great visual of where the places you plan on visiting are in relation to your hotel or hostel. A nice little extra feature is that transport links are also shown together with distance and travelling times.
I tried the app out by building an itinerary for a UK trip to the Lakes, and while I was doing this I discovered that the app also includes some pre-made checklists for things to do before a trip and useful packing lists. Impressive. You can also create your own lists, not just for packing, but to make notes about anything on the trip. The app allows you to create a trip budget, which I haven't explored yet.
Before I discovered Wanderlog I was using several separate apps for research, itineraries, getting about, and packing. Not anymore. Wanderlog has become my go to travel app companion.
I would encourage you to try it out. I am impressed, I think you'll also like it.
